Why Zenfoil is faster
We now have ubiquitous broadband access to the internet. You can go to various “speedtest” websites that will measure the raw throughput of your upload and download speeds and ping times. Braoadband internet does provide fast “baseline” access. However that does not tell the entire story. The internet feels as fast as the the slowest link in the chain. That slowest link tends to the speed of DNS lookups. Zenfoil custom DNS infrastructure is optimized for both speed and privacy.
Currently, our 3 encrypted DNS servers balance speed and reliability. Zenfoil-3 located in the same datacentre as the Offramp has only approximately 2ms latency and therefore will be used for nearly all name lookups. That results in noticeably fast response on your device. Zenfoil-1 and Zenfoil-2 are located in the St. Louis and Atlanta, for redundancy and reliability. If for any reason Zenfoil-1 is busy or slow to respond, you still have sub 15ms access to Zenfoil-1 in St. Louis, and sub 30ms access to Zenfoil-2 in Atlanta.
